Smart Packaging: Rondol 10mm line ready for installation at Queens University Belfast

Small bench type machines that allow small scale trials are very appropriate to support research projects on smart packaging that aim to add certain pigments to plastic packaging and make it possible for the plastic to change colour once the environment within the package has changed.

This applies both for food packaging where a change of colour would indicate that the food turned bad and for the electronics industry where it would help to prevent counterfeits by making the packages more difficult to fake.

Andrew Mills, Professor of Materials Chemistry at Queens University states: “The Rondol machine supports the development of a new range of plastics before the actual production of prototypes. It is a perfect first stage research equipment".
